Amaharashi coast lies in the northern part of Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture. The 3000m Tateyama Mountain Range, rising from Toyama Bay can be seen from the coast. This scenery is majestic and mysterious, taking various shapes throughout the year. It is selected as one of Japan’s top 100 views. The name “Amaharashi” is connected with a legend about the famous warlord Minamoto-no-Yoshitsune. According to the legend, Minamoto no Yoshitsune was heading to Oshu Hiraizumi when he was caught in heavy rain on this coast. His vassal Musashibo Benkei lifted the rock and they managed to shelter from the rain. That’s why the coast became known as Amaharashi Coast.
