Taga Taisha Shrine

An old shrine in Shiga Prefecture
Taga-taisha Shrine is located in Shiga Prefecture, Inukami-gun, Taga. It is the oldest shrine in Shiga Prefecture and is commonly known as O-taga-san.
The shrine is dedicated to the creator gods Izanami-no-mikoto and Izanagi-no-mikoto in Japan’s oldest book the “Kojiki” and visiting the shrine is said to bring long life, luck in marriage, and protection from evil. The shrine has been repaired numerous times but the repairs are done carefully to protect the culture and tradition of the shrine and the shrine today is nearly the same as it was in ancient times. The approach to the shrine has many torii and many souvenir shops are set up here.
