Sekinoo Waterfall

Located within the Mochio Sekino-o Prefectural Park and selected as one of the Top-100 Waterfalls of Japan, Sekino-o Falls is comprised of three falls, with the large falls reaching a width of approximately 40 meters and a height of 18 meters and the two other falls (male falls and female falls) tumbling down from between the trees. It is formed in the welded tuff (deposited material from a pyroclastic flow that has hardened into rock from its own heat and weight) of the Kakuto pyroclastic flow of 340,000 years ago.Besides the large falls seen in the picture below, there are two manmade falls (male falls and female falls) carved into the rock during the Meiji era. The male falls disgorges from the spillway irrigation ditch, while the female falls draws from the river.
